Taiwan’s official lottery operator Taiwan Lottery Co. has added TWD900 million (US$29.61 million) to several lotteries’ jackpots this year in celebration of the Year of the Rabbit, and to increase interest.
The boost was officially announced by Huang Chih-yi, a Taiwan Lottery board member and company spokesperson, who made the announcement alongside actress Vivian Sung during a news conference.
Lotteries such as Lotto 6/49, Super Lotto, and BINGO BINGO have much larger jackpots than they have had over the last several years, and with Taiwan’s lottery sales seeing a marked decline last year, this is aimed at building both interest, and revenue.
Additionally, Huang said the additional prize money for Lotto 6/49, which is the country’s most popular lottery, will be split into two, in keeping with its normal procedure.
